Another special quality of “Tales” is that it satisfies my trigger finger and my want to micromanage stats and items and attacks. I’m a huge fan of turn based combat, and I don’t think it’s obsolete or any of that nonsense, but the “scrub” battles in turn-based rpg’s do start to, well, grind. It feels like a waste of time and it stops being engaging when i just mindlessly push A, and don’t have any immediate influence over the space in front of me. With something like “Tales” i enjoy active engagement in the battles.

And the NPCs are not half bad, considering, at least they give you a bit of control over their actions and they usually do what I want them to. I’m sure it’s more fun with other players though (and easier).

That can’t really be a name omg

The thing i’m starting to get about tales is that it isn’t the story (which is typical of jrpgs every time), the world (awkwardly rendered), or even the gameplay (which is pretty good imo) it’s the characters. The rest of it is just a backdrop for the drama of the characters. Players who WANT to fall in love with interesting characters will wade through the bullshit for them.

"The white people names." Thats perfect~ The names of the places and concepts are even worse imo. I won’t even try to spell them here, but damn. I know there is a lot of norse and other mythology thrown in for the names… but simply because all of it isn’t made-up doesn’t make it any less of a hilarious mouthful every time.

i can smell the betrayal from here omg why “tales of” why

i’m really bad at being in the middle of a story (hence why i like to watch series after all the episodes air, and why i read the last page of books first). i haven’t spoiled anything for “abyss” but the tension is killing me and there are hours of battling and dungeon crawling to do before the shit hits the fan

also these games are straight-up hilarious, both intentionally and unintentionally. i can’t handle the guy who floats on the fucking chair. in one scene he zooms away like he just used an escape rope and is headed for the nearest pokemon center. but the next scene is like “in other news, politics and war.” and the NAMES the writers pick for shit in this series, so stupid.
